Institute of Directors, London

Main Contractor: Space Workplace Ltd
Project Value: £235k

With the phase out of the practical use of systems containing R22, The Institute of Directors had set aside budget to replace the remaining Daikin R22 VRV Systems installed in their London HQ. A total of 14 systems comprising 67 No. fan coils serving various function rooms & public offices were affected by the ban & needed to be replaced.

The IoD could not tolerate any disruption to their business. The function rooms & offices constitute a large part of revenue & the conference team could not allow anything to interrupt this. Working alongside the main contractor Space Workplace & the client we devised a programme based on the occupancy of the areas so that we worked in each area for the agreed time & completed rooms were handed back with fully operational systems in line with the conference team’s commitments.

To reduce costs for the client, we rationalised the craneage, necessary to locate the new condensing units deep within a central lightwell, to a minimum by carefully planning the switch on & switch off of the various areas. This allowed us to have condensing units ready for positioning & freeing up space for continued storage of redundant units ready for the final lift & removal.

After the successful completion of these works, we were pleased to be awarded the maintenance contract for all the air conditioning equipment installed within this building.
